The VAI-26H is a six-seater hybrid powered airplane. New project is based on available V-24 airplane, the best portion of V-24 units are used. The new airplane has a fully clean wing without engine nacelles, that improves higher performances.
Main feature of the project is a hybrid power unit, consists of two main Emrax 268 electric motors, Unitek controllers, generator, accumulator batteries and auxiliary Suzuki Hayabusa piston engine.
Hybrid power unit has a big flexibility, it can operate in different modes depends on flight mode. Hybrid power usage allows to reduce noise and emissions in atmosphere.
Twin engined power unit increase high flight safety, at improbable failure of one engine you can continue flight by other engine or come back to the airport of departure. Majority of manufacturers is offered by single-motor electric airplanes.
Electric motor has small weight, small overall dimensions, this advantage allows to have a good aerodynamic shape.
Today parametres of Lithium accumulators provide sufficient duration of flight at moderate weight. Every year perfomances of accumulators more and more impruve, the price gradually decreases, the accumulators market now extends.
Two main electric motors are disposed on the pilons mounted in fuselage tail. Engines layout provides a small overrun concerning the center of mass that facilitates flight by one engine. Electric motors drives the propellers without gearbox. Accumulator batteries are disposed in the wing.
Liquid cooled auxiliary piston engine Hayabusa is disposed inside the fuselage behind the wing. For access to auxiliary engine in the fuselage we have a hatch. For engine cooling and ventilation there are air intakes. Fuel tanks are disposed in the wing. Auxiliary piston engine feeds fuel from two fuel tanks in the wing.
The power unit has such modes:
- electric motors feeds from generator (auxiliary piston engine is running);
- electric motors feeds from the battery only;
- electric motors feeds from the generator and from the battery (auxiliary piston engine is running);
- electric motors and batteries jointly feeds from the generator (auxiliary piston engine is running);
- batteries feeds from the generator (auxiliary piston engine is running);

Airplane has a robust structure made of carbon composites, retractable landing gear, comfortable cockpit.
In the fuselage tail behind the cockpit is disposed GRS parachute rescue system.
